Diary # 7: Discrimination
Discrimination is something very common in our society. People don’t respect each other all the time and they do this because they feel superior. Maybe because they don’t feel good or it is what they were taught in their families. But at the end we can say that discrimination is sometimes present in all over the world and something difficult to end.
As the freedom writer, I have a place where I feel safe and better when I’m stressed, angry or even sick. These places are the school and my apartment. Every time I’m in one of these places, I feel a lot safer than every time I’m on the street. This is because I like being with people I know like my family and all my friends.
As a white person I don’t feel that I’m being treated in any positive or negative way. I think maybe because I don’t discriminate others, or maybe because I haven’t know someone that have a problem with my race. The only thing I think I know is that I have some kind of similar things Europe and USA people have, for example the color of the hair and eyes. And I feel like people here in Colombia respect tend to have a lot of respect for people from those places because is not that common to see someone from these important places.
I think people are always trying to understand each other better every day. But as an example, because of people like Donald Trump, Hitler and the social media and news, the society following and relieving in then makes a step forwards.
So I can see that discrimination is something difficult to change, but people can make this less common, but it is something that will never end, because it is part of the human race.
